Microsoft Corp. produced and offered its "Microsoft Office" software, including Microsoft Word, to consumers and computer manufacturers. Dell Inc. and Hewlett-Packard Co. (HP) also sold their computers with Microsoft Office installed.

Contentions

PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS:
Walker Digital LLC filed suit against Microsoft, Dell, and HP, alleging patent infringement. Walker contended that Microsoft Office, specifically its "Reference Tools" feature, infringed Walker's patent for methods and apparatus for searching a database over the Internet.

DEFENDANTS' CONTENTIONS:
Microsoft, Dell, and HP contended that there was no literal infringement.

Result

The court granted summary judgment to the defense.
