Facts

Employees of More Than Closets Inc. brought an action against their employer and California Closet Company Inc., the franchisor. The plaintiffs alleged violations of the California Labor Code and Business and Professions Code.

Contentions

PLAINTIFFS' CONTENTIONS:
The plaintiffs contended that their employer failed to pay proper overtime wages, provide indemnity for expenses, and issue appropriate meal periods.

DEFENDANT'S CONTENTIONS:
The defense rejected all claims. In addition, California Closet asserted that it was not plaintiffs' employer.

Damages

The plaintiffs requested restitution, interest, penalties, as well as declaratory and injunctive relief.

Result

The parties settled for $475,000, to be paid by More Than Closets, Inc., and the court awarded an injunction.
