The plaintiff, a 37-year-old female, was treated for Graves Disease and hyperthyroidism from
1996 to 1999. In 1999, she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. In September 1999, she
underwent a total thyroidectomy performed by a partner with Facey Medical Group, Charles
Chidsey, M.D. Immediately after the surgery, the plaintiff experienced bilateral vocal cord
paralysis necessitating a permanent tracheostomy.
