Facts
The plaintiff worked as a safety attendant for Welltech Safety Services at the Chevron refinery in
Richmond, Calif., and the Equilon refinery in Martinez, 12 hours per day during turnarounds. The
plaintiff alleged that, during this employment, she was exposed to benzene which caused her
leukemia. The plaintiff underwent chemotherapy, achieved a brief remission and is being worked
up for peripheral stem cell transplantation.
