On March 4, 1992, plaintiff Karen Saleigh, a 42-year-old insurance adjuster, stopped her vehicle at a stop sign. Defendant Jan Schmidt stopped her vehicle behind the plaintiff. The plaintiff began to make a right turn, but stopped a second time to check for oncoming traffic. The defendant began to make a right turn and rearended the plaintiff's vehicle. The plaintiff brought this action against the defendant based on negligence theories of recovery.
