Facts
Leaders in Community Alternatives Inc. filed suit claiming that G4S Justice Services had engaged in unfair business practices by misrepresenting itself in a bid to the San Francisco Sheriff's Department for a contract to monitor released inmates. LCA claimed that G4S had misrepresented itself by co-opting the resources of its parent corporation, British company G4S plc, and representing them as its own. G4S countered with evidence that it had fully complied with what the Sheriff's Department had requested.
Result
The court found in favor of G4S's contract, determining that plaintiff had failed to meet its burden of proof and that G4S Justice Services had accurately portrayed itself in its bid to the Sheriff's Department. The trial court found that "G4S did not intentionally interfere" with any contracts between LCA and SFSD, either current or future. The court further determined that "G4S only engaged in fair competition." G4S was awarded its costs and is seeking additional costs after plaintiff failed to accept a statutory offer before trial.
