On July 8, 2000, the defendant, admittedly intoxicated, struck the plaintiff without warning in the left temple with a beer glass at McMurphy's Bar & Restaurant in Old Town, Pasadena. The plaintiff was taken to Huntington Memorial Hospital, glass was removed from his wounds and he was sutured. He later went to Kaiser to remove more glass and repair scars and then he was referred to another surgeon who performed more foreign body removal and repair surgery.
