The plaintiff owned a commercial office building adjacent to Highway 101 in Camarillo. CalTrans condemned a portion of the parking lot as part of a freeway improvement project. A dispute arose over the value of the property taken as well as the severance damages to the remaining parcel. The defendant's last demand was $525,000; the plaintiff's last offer was $215,803.
