Facts

A severe landslide occurred on the plaintiffÆs property where their home was located in Calabasas. The slide was
caused by the Jan. 17, 1994 Northridge earthquake, which disrupted a storm main and water drain. As a result
water leaked into the hillside, resulting in major landslides.

Settlement Discussions

Several mediations took place but no acceptable offers were forthcoming. Finally, after several days of settlement discussions, the plaintiff accepted $2,545,000 contributed in varying amounts from the defendants, with the exception of The County of Los Angeles in whose favor summary judgment was granted. The City of Calabasas received the plaintiffsÆ property as part of the settlement.

Other Information

All the defendants had cross-complaints against each other defendant. This case was consolidated with the VartivarianÆs case against the plaintiffs and the other defendants.
