On Aug. 16, 1993, while plaintiff, a 3-year-old child, was in the back yard of her home in Rancho Santa Fe,
California, was attacked and bitten by a 6-year-old, 100-pound Russian Wolfhound belonging to the defendant.
The plaintiff sustained a triangular bite wound to her upper lip, requiring emergency suturing.
The plaintiff brought this action against the defendant based on negligence and strict liability.
Settlement Discussions
The plaintiff made a demand for $200,000, reduced to $125,000 at mediation. The defendant made an initial offer of $100,000 present value under various structure plans.
