Facts
Jose Castillo was killed at the Puente Hills Landfill, operated by defendant County Sanitation Districts (a public
entity) when a truck owned and operated by other defendants tipped over and crushed him.
This action was brought by his widow and two minor children based on the negligence of truck operators and
owners and the dangerous condition of the landfill.
Prior to trial, the plaintiffs settled with the truck operator and owner defendants for $2,606,900, which was
$100,000 less than their combined policy limits.
