Facts

The plaintiff first visited the defendant with a chief complaint of sensitive tooth causing discomfort and further
complained of bad breath. There was bleeding between tooth numbers 2, 3, 14 and 15. Scaling and polishing
was done on the first visit. They charted good oral hygiene. The plaintiff was referred to an orthodontist, Dr.
Robert Sundquist (not a party) for shifting occlusion.
On April 29, 1997, the plaintiff, who was seven months pregnant, returned to the defendantÆs office. No X-ray
was taken. There was oral cancer screening that was negative. The plaintiff had scaling and polishing, slight
pregnancy gingivitis was noted, and light bleeding was present. She was scheduled for the next visit to have a
full mouth X-rays.
On Dec. 1, 1997, the plaintiff returned to the defendantÆs office. The health history was updated and no
changes were noted. The plaintiff complained of bad breath. A parorex and four bitewing X-rays were taken
and pocket charting and probing was done. The plaintiffÆs last visit was on July 6, 1998. The oral hygiene was
described as very good. They recorded a 10 mm pocket between tooth numbers 2 and 3. In addition, they noted
that the plaintiff was referred to Dr. MoffsonÆs (not a party) office by an orthodontist. Pain and inflammation
were noted in unidentified areas. The plaintiff was referred to Dr. Donald Roberts (not a party), local
periodontist for a second opinion. The plaintiff never saw the Dr. Roberts instead Dr. Nordland (not a party).
