Facts
According to the plaintiff: On Oct. 30, 1998, a Dollar Rent-A-Car manager, allowed Rene Urena, a Dollar
employee, to leave work, at the end of her shift on her own, despite having removed her from the rental desk
because of her disorientation and her inability to function. The accident occurred on northbound State Highway
73 within two miles of the Dollar location. Shu Mei Chang, 70, died as a result of the accident and caused
injuries to plaintiffs.
Settlement Discussions
The plaintiffs made a C.C.P. Section 998 demand of $1,349,999 eight months before trial, increased to $2.3 million before trial. The defendants offered $100,000 on the first day of trial, increased to $250,00 before argument.
