Facts
The plaintiff sued the defendants' partnership and its individual members for the conversion of rare hard wood blocks that the plaintiff had been manufacturing into wood flooring. La Cadena Properties sued Velazquez Inc. and other parties for trespass, conversion, alleging that when the plaintiff's representatives entered without permission onto the real property to remove some wood that they also intentionally damaged La Cadena's equipment that was stored on the property and slander of title as to a lis pendens that was filed in regard to the litigation.
Result
The plaintiff was awarded $550,000 in compensatory damages with prejudgment interest at 7 percent, plus punitive damages of $125,000. The cross-defendants, John Tillotson, Haydee Tillotson and Erik Tillotson, received directed verdicts as to four of the five cross-complaint asserted by the cross-complainant partnership. The jury found againstn cross-complainant La Cadena Properties and the partnership as to its remaining cross-complaint.
