Facts

The subject suit relates to an EEOC action that was instituted in federal court in January 2000 and which claimed that four employees, Pakistani-Americans, were repeatedly harassed due to their national origin and religion (Muslim). The four individuals were employees of a subsidiary of Herrick Corporation, one of the nation's largest steel companies.

Settlement Discussions

The company, while denying all charges, agreed to a payment of $1.11 million and additionally agreed to certain policy changes and training programs to prevent future discrimination as well as to implement a policy guaranteeing an employee's right to request an accommodation for religious needs.

Damages

The employees claimed harassment which prompted the need for psychiatric counseling.
