Facts

Plaintiff Edward Romero worked as a production control expeditor for The Boeing Company in Long Beach. He was at work on Sept. 17, 2003, when he slipped and fell. The plaintiff alleged that a floor cleaning machine, provided and operated by defendant Aramark, left wet streaks on the floor and caused him to slip and fall. The plaintiff landed on his wrists, hands, and knees. Immediately after the accident, he contacted the safety department.

Damages

The plaintiff was unable to work for nine months. However, the plaintiff's employer continued to pay workers' compensation benefits. The workers' compensation lien was $65,000, reduced to $60,000.

Injuries

The plaintiff sustained injuries to the lumbar, left knee, and left wrist. He required left knee surgery, left knee arthroscopy, and left knee partial arthroscopic medial meniscectomy. He continued to have residual pain in his lower back and left knee.

Result

The case settled at a mandatory settlement conference for $190,000.
