Facts

The Sacramento Municipal Utility District filed suit against the federal government over the federal government's failure to build a permanent home to store nuclear waste. The utility sought to recover $80 million in payments it made from 1992 to 2009 to house nuclear waste from the closed Rancho Seco plant. The utility was forced to store the waste because Congress never opened a planned facility at Nevada's Yucca Mountain.

Result

The Court ruled that the government had partially breached it contracts and awarded $35 million.
