On February 17, 1995, plaintiff, a 64-year-old homemaker, and her husband had dinner at the defendant's restaurant in Redondo Beach, CA. The plaintiff's vehicle had a handicapped parking permit because the plaintiff suffered from rheumatoid arthritis. The plaintiff's husband parked their vehicle in a handicapped parking space at the restaurant. After eating dinner at defendant's restaurant, the plaintiff and her husband left the restaurant and proceeded to their vehicle in the restaurant's parking lot via the sidewalk surrounding the perimeter of the restaurant. The plaintiff stepped off the sidewalk onto the parking space adjacent to the handicapped space where her vehicle was parked. She stepped towards the front passenger door of her vehicle. The plaintiff tripped and fell on potholes in the asphalt.
