Facts

The decedent, a 33-year-old mother of two, went to the defendantÆs urgent health care center and complained of
pain in her chest and ankle. In the few days prior to attending the health care center, she had experienced flu
symptoms. The attending physician, the co-defendant, diagnosed possible gout and he treated the decedent
with anti-inflammatory and pain medication. She died thirty hours later. The autopsy revealed a Strep A
infection in her blood.

Settlement Discussions

The plaintiffs made a demand of $300,000; the defendants did not make any offer.
