Facts
Maria Bojorquez worked as a janitor for ABM. She claimed she was raped by her foreman and direct supervisor in San Francisco's Ferry Building. The same supervisor also harassed her with lewd comments and sexual advances for several months prior to the rape. When she complained to the company, ABM responded by swearing Ms. Bojorquez to silence, transferring her to a shorter-term position, and then terminating her.
After an investigation, ABM claimed it found no evidence supporting Bojorquez's complaints.
Result
The jury found ABM responsible for sexual harassment and retaliation. Bojorquez was awarded $12,000 for lost wages, $800,000 for emotional distress, and $1 for future medical expenses.
