Open Text S.A. sued Box Inc., Carahsoft Technology Corporation for alleged patent infringement.

Contentions

PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS:
Open Text S.A. alleged that Box Inc.'s software relating to content-sharing services infringed 12 of Open Text's patents. It further alleged that Carahsoft Technology Corp. marketed and sold the infringing software. It sued both companies for patent infringement.

Result

The jury found defendants infringed several of the patents and awarded Open Text $4,918,661. Before trial, the court denied plaintiff's motion for preliminary injunction, invalidated seven of the patents, and denied plaintiff's claim for willful infringement.
