Facts

The plaintiff, a 71-year-old man, was receiving treatment for iritis from the defendant ophthalmologist. That treatment consisted of a steroidal injections into the plaintiff's right eye. In October 1996, during a routine steroidal injection, the needle perforated the globe of the plaintiff's right eye. Shortly thereafter, the plaintiff suffered a suprachoroidal hemorrhage. Attempts to repair the injury were unsuccessful, and ultimately the plaintiff agreed to have his right eye enucleated. The plaintiff brought this action against the defendant based on a medical negligence theory of recovery.

Settlement Discussions

The plaintiffs made a C.C.P. º998 settlement demand for $174,999.99.

Injuries

The plaintiff claimed the loss of his right eye.

Other Information

The settlement was reached approximately nine months after the case was filed.
