In 1992, plaintiff Zurn Constructors Inc. contracted with defendant Castaic Lake Water Agency to build a water pipeline which connected the Metropolitan Water District's Foothill Feeder with defendant's new water treatment plant. The plaintiff completed construction seven months behind schedule, causing defendant to withold $411,000 in liquidated damages. The plaintiff filed suit for breach of contract.

Settlement Discussions

According to defendant, the plaintiff demanded $600,000, reduced to $470,000 during trial. The defendant made an offer of $200,000.

Damages

The plaintiff sought $570,663 in unpaid retention, extended overhead costs, and extra work claims.
