Facts

The plaintiff, a 36-year-old female, was hired by the defendant to work as manger of a retail store. She also rented
a housing unit from the father of the defendant. According to the plaintiff, she relocated to take up the position
under the impression that she would be given an opportunity to buy into the business at some point in the
future. Her six month review was largely favorable and she was told at that time that the business was no
longer for sale. The plaintiff complained to the defendant of sexual harassment by the defendantÆs son in the
form of a series of repeated lewd comments addressed not only to her but to another female employee. Two
days later the plaintiff was fired, the reason being given as "conflict of management styles."
Several days later, the plaintiff received notice of termination of her tenancy agreement
at the rented property. The plaintiff submitted a claim and shortly thereafter the defendant filed a
claim in small claims court, and subsequently filed and obtained judgment, against the plaintiff
for purchases credited to the plaintiffÆs account for $1,906.

Settlement Discussions

Settlement: $150,000 less $1,906.06 due to the defendant on the small claims judgement.

Damages

The plaintiff contended that she suffered loss of income, loss of $50,000 severance pay, loss of the benefit of the buy-out contract, emotional distress, moving expenses and $2,500 security deposit.
