    Facts

    The plaintiff, age 18, sustained severe head trauma in an automobile accident in which he was a passenger. The plaintiff was initially treated at Riverside Medical Center and was thereafter transferred to UCLA Medical Center for further treatment. Shortly after arriving at UCLA, he showed signs of additional brain swelling requiring additional brain surgery to relieve the pressure building in his head (a ventriculostomy).
