Facts

On February 26, 1994, the plaintiff, a 37-year-old manager of corporate communications for a hospital, was at a social event/ball held by the hospital at the defendant hotel in Newport Beach, California. One of the defendant hotel's waiters knocked over a column placed by the defendant florist in a room near the serving area and the column struck the plaintiff from behind. The plaintiff brought this action against all of the defendants based on negligence and premises liability theories of recovery.
