Facts
Domonique Hines was employed at a KFC restaurant. She claimed that her employer failed to pay her and others the correct amount for missed break periods and off-the-clock work. She brought a class action against KFC, alleging that KFC's failure to pay appropriate wages constituted violations of California's Labor Code and Business and Professions Code. She represented herself and a class of more than 13,000 current and former employees of KFC, arguing that KFC failed to properly compensate them as required by law. She also claimed that KFC failed to pay her and the class appropriate overtime and minimum wages. KFC disputed the claims.
Result
Without admitting to wrongdoing, KFC agreed to pay $3.55 million to settle the matter.
