Plaintiff Denise Barraza, a 21-year-old retail clerk, was driving a Nissan Sentra at 45 mph on Evan Hewes Highway, near the James Road intersection in El Centro. Defendant Sara Sanchez, driving a Ford Ranger truck, ran a stop sign and hit the plaintiff's passenger side. The plaintiff's car was knocked 192 feet through the intersection and spinned out of control before coming to rest in the median. The plaintiff sued the defendant for negligence, claiming the defendant caused the collision by failing to yield the right of way. The defendant admitted liability but disputed the plaintiff's injuries.
