On April 7, 2003, the defendants' roofing truck failed to stop for a red traffic signal at the intersection of Oso Parkway and Tesoro Creek Road in an unincorporated area of Orange County adjacent to Tesoro High School. It crashed into the plaintiffs' 16-year-old son's pickup truck that had just entered the intersection. The plaintiffs' son died at the scene.
