On Oct. 2, 2000, the decedent underwent triple bypass surgery from which he was discharged on Oct. 11. On Oct. 19, the decedent returned to the hospital due to a wound infection. During the next five days in the hospital, he was bedridden and immobile. On the third day of hospitalization, the decedent was provided Flotrons. Subsequent to its application, the decedent began experiencing breathing difficulties that increased in severity in subsequent days. The decedent, when asked to ambulate to the restroom in preparation for a debridement procedure, experienced a pulmonary thromboemboli. The decedent died on Oct. 24. The decedent was a 47-year-old draftsman and married with two children.
