Facts

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission brought this lawsuit on behalf of women who were employees
of defendant The Oil Shoppe, doing business as Jiffy Lube in Lynwood. One woman filed a charge of
discrimination with the EEOC who conducted an investigation. It found four other women had viable claims.
Two of the women were 18 years old and the other was 28 years old.
The EEOC sued defendant for sexual harassment. On behalf of one woman, who was terminated, the EEOC
also sued for retaliation. The EEOC claimed that co-workers and supervisors sexually harassed the women and
propositioned them to have sex.
The same co-worker allegedly made comments such as "you fucking lazy bitch,"
"women are worthless," and "we want to go bang-bang." One woman also claimed that this same
supervisor who asked to drive her home told her that "young ones are always better" and
suggested that "we could stop at a hotel on the way to your house."

Damages

One of the women claimed that as a result of the harassment and retaliation, she was afraid to get other jobs and complained of having nightmares.

Result

The defendant finally decided to settle the lawsuit because of the significant costs necessary to defend a class action lawsuit brought by the EEOC. A settlement of $299,000 was reached.
