Facts
On May 30, 2007, plaintiffs Daniel Mallett, 56, and Catherine Mallett, 45, were visiting the United States. Plaintiffs were riding a rented Harley Davidson motorcycle. Daniel Mallett was the driver and Catherine Mallett was the passenger.
Defendant Lonnita Steinweg, who was driving her Honda in the course and scope of her employment for the County of San Bernardino, was traveling northbound on Sepulveda Avenue at Fifth Street in San Bernardino. With a stop sign at a T-intersection, Steinweg turned left onto Sepulveda striking plaintiffs.

Injuries
Daniel Mallett suffered a fractured skull with loss of consciousness, sacral fracture, rib fractures, fracture of the L5, contusion of right lower lobe of the lung and pneumothorax. Catherine Mallett sustained disatasis of the pubic symphysis, left sacral fracture, left sacroiliac fracture, left femur mid to distal shaft fracture, and fracture of the left great toe.
Result
The case settled for $3 million.
