Facts

In 2008, Adam Guerbuez sent unsolicited spam messages to Facebook users. Guerbuez's unauthorized messages violated Facebook's terms of use. As a result, Facebook sued Guerbuez and his company, Atlantis Blue Capital, for breach of contract and violations of the CAN-SPAM Act, Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, California Penal Code section 502(c), and the Electronic Communications Privacy Act.

Damages

The plaintiff sought statutory damages.

Injuries

Facebook claimed injury to reputation and goodwill.

Result

The court awarded Facebook $873,277,200 and enjoined defendants from using Facebook accounts.
