Facts

On Nov. 26, 202, defendant Brian Douglas Ricks was driving on Hicks Road in Los Gatos with Eric Quesada, an 18-year-old student, was a passenger in the vehicle. The defendant, who was charged with driving under the influence, was traveling at approximately 60 mph when he swerved into the opposite lane. The defendant tried to regain control of the vehicle, but he crashed into a guardrail and power pole. Quesada died two days later from head injuries. The plaintiffs are Quesada's parents, who sued the defendant for wrongful death.

Other Information

At the second mediation with retired Judge William J. Cahill, the parties agreed to settle for $2.1 million.
