Facts

The plaintiffs husband and wife, ages 53 and 38, claimed wrongful eviction and false arrest. The plaintiffs
alleged that their manager, Linda Mikkelsen, falsely arrested Robert Turcotte to force the tenants from the
premises. The arrest was for assault with a deadly weapon (a knife).
The defendants were George Haldeman, the landlord, age 82, and Linda Mikkelsen, the manager, age 55. The
defendants contended that the arrest was proper and true.

Settlement Discussions

The plaintiff demanded $100,000. The defendant made a C.C.P. Section 998 offer for $30,000.

Damages

$100,000 (for false arrest); $50,000 (for wrongful eviction)

Other Information

The punitive damages would have been higher had it not been for the landlord's age.
