Defendant

Patricia L. Blanton

Facts

The plaintiff student alleged that defendant Farid Badlissi, a substitute teacher, pushed him against a file cabinet
for no apparent reason, causing him to sustain a broken finger. The plaintiff mother sought reimbursement of
the medical expenses. The plaintiffs were Ronald Barrow, a 15-year-old student and his mother Jacqueline
Barrow.
The defendants denied that the incident occurred and contended that the plaintiff student broke his finger when
he rammed his fist through the wall in his next class on that same day. The defendants also contended that he
might have broken it playing basketball subsequent to this date and when he first sought medical treatment
three days later.

Settlement Discussions

The plaintiff made a settlement demand for $250,000, reduced to $50,000 on the day of trial. The defendant offered nothing.

Damages

Ronald Barrow claimed $25,000 for damages and Jacqueline Barrow reimbursed her medical expenses.

Injuries

The plaintiff claimed broken finger.

Other Information

According to the defendant the plaintiff Ronald Barrow is left-handed- the broken finger was on the right hand. The defense counsel reported that when Barrow demonstrated to the jury how high the hole in the wall was in relation to the floor, he used his right hand.
