Facts

Decedent, a 43-year-old movie set painter, was riding his bicycle on Washington Boulevard westbound next to
the eastbound curb. Defendant bus had pulled away from the bus stop on the other side of Lincoln Boulevard
and was merging into traffic when the vehicles collided.
Decedent fell to the ground and was run over by the rear wheels of the bus, which instantly killed him.
Plaintiffs were the 29-year-old wife and 4-year-old daughter of the decedent.

Settlement Discussions

The plaintiff demanded $3 million. The defendant offered $350,000.

Damages

The plaintiffs claimed $1.7 million for loss of support
