Facts

Mauricio Rosilho filed suit against David Young, based on a property dispute.

Contentions

PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS:
In 2003, Rosilho possessed an interest in two parcels of real property in San Gabriel. He shared a one-third ownership interest in those properties with Young and Young's brother. Rosilho alleged that Young later forged his signature on two grant deeds, improperly conveying Rosilho's interest in the property to Young.

On Sept. 30, 2003, the alleged forged deeds were recorded, leading to a fraudulent transfer of Rosilho's interest in the properties to Young. Young later sold the properties for about $2.3 million.

Result

The jury awarded Rosilho compensatory and punitive damages, and the court awarded compound prejudgment interest from 2003, for a combined estimated total to date of $1.7 million.
