Bernabe performed a knee replacement surgery on Berger. His leg was subsequently amputated after a series of infections developed. Similar horror stories were cited by Bernabe's victims.
Result
There were no findings of negligence against the hospital. Adventist Health nonetheless agreed to settle 62 lawsuits. Barger received $2.08 million in the settlement.
