Facts
Two hundred former and current residents of Hooven, Ohio filed a lawsuit against Chevron USA Inc. following the release of various chemicals from a former Gulf Oil Co. refinery. The refinery, which was located on the edge of Hooven, closed in 1986 following a merger of Chevron and Gulf in 1985.
Contentions
PLAINTIFFS' CONTENTIONS:
Plaintiffs alleged personal injury, property damages, and medical monitoring from benzene and other chemicals relaxed from the refinery. They claimed that defendants mishandled refinery products and waste, which caused an underground plume of hydrocarbons that moved offsite following a cease in refinery operations.
Result
The court granted defendants' motion for summary judgment, and dismissed plaintiffs' claims.
