Facts

On March 5, 1990, Plaintiff, an 85-year-old retiree, was admitted to Defendant hospital for treatment of a fracture of a small bone in her leg. She was placed in a fiberglass leg splint and instructed to use a call button for assistance, with a warning to stay in the bed. During the night, she took an unauthorized walk and broke her wrist in a fall, 15 feet from the bed.
