Facts

A 41-year-old Chinese-American male disappeared on Aug. 25, 2003, at Pier 70 in San Francisco. He was last seen bicycling toward the north end of the pier, where he was scheduled to rejoin friends on a fishing trip. Within an hour, his friends observed a baseball cap and broken planks floating on the water. One week later, the man's body was found floating in the water. The evidence indicated that he fell through a hole in the wharf. The plaintiff is the man's mother, Yuen Kiu Low.

Settlement Discussions

The plaintiff demanded $325,000; the defendant offered $200,000.

Injuries

The plaintiff sought damages for loss of comfort and society.
