In October 1989, Plaintiff Kenneth G. Leabres, a 57-year-old teacher, claimed that his hours were cut back and that he was demoted from his position as a coordinator of the Amnesty Program at Manuel Arts/Jefferson Adult School due to alleged discrimination by Defendants Los Angeles Unified School District; James Figueroa, the LAUSD assistant superintendent of adult education; Fred Reckker, the principal at Manuel Arts/Jefferson Adult School who was in charge of the Amnesty program; and Molly Curtis and Robert Cochran who were teachers/coordinators at Leabres' school. Leabres had been employed by the LAUSD for 20 years as a part-time, non-tenured teacher.
