Facts
On Oct. 5, 1992, decedent Mary Derderian, a 60-year-old cafeteria worker, was admitted to defendant St. Luke Medical Center's emergency room for evaluation of chest pain. She was examined and given initial treatment by the emergency room physician, who then called in a cardiologist, Dr. Baggett. After she was admitted, the decedent suffered an interior wall myocardial infarction and later a left ventricular rupture. She died five days later. The plaintiffs, the decedent's four adult children, brought this action against the defendant hospital and the defendant cardiologist based on medical negligence and malpractice theories of recovery.
Settlement Discussions
The plaintiffs made a C.C.P. º998 settlement demand for $250,000. The defendants made a C.C.P. º998 offer of compromise for $150,000.
