Facts

Edward Hogya filed suit against the City of Petaluma, alleging that the police used excessive force when they arrested him in December 2010. Police officers arrived at Hogya's house and had a verbal confrontation with him. Believing that Hogya might have been armed, a police officer released his dog, which bit Hogya and took off a chunk of his biceps. Hogya was unarmed and claimed he had not threatened anyone.

Result

The parties settled for $500,000.
