Facts

Ricardo Palikiko-Garcia, Stanley Harris, and Keith Richardson sued the City and County of San Francisco, Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi, and Deputies Scott Neu, Evan Staehely, Eugene Jones, and Clifford Chiba, involving allegations of civil rights violations.

Contentions

PLAINTIFFS' CONTENTIONS:
Plaintiffs were county jail inmates who contended they were abused, mistreated, and subjected to cruel and unusual punishment by the defendants. Among other things, defendants, specifically defendant Scott Neu, harassed plaintiffs by calling them derogatory and racist names, interrupted plaintiffs' kitchen routines by making plaintiff Stanley Harris do exercises against his will in preparation for the forced fights, and placed plaintiffs in great danger by forcing them to fight each other until one combatant surrenders in defeat.

DEFENDANTS' CONTENTIONS:
Defendants denied the allegations.

Result

San Francisco agreed to settle for $90,000.
