The respondent Levant Nettles, a 41-year-old unemployed man, allegedly suffered from a mental disorder and could not provide for his own food, clothing or shelter. The petitioner, the Office of Public Conservator, brought this action to establish a conservatorship based on the Lanterman-Petris Short Act. The respondent demanded a jury trial and opposed his conservatorship and placement.

Other Information

The verdict was reached approximately three months after the case was filed. Per petitioner, respondent's testimony, cognitive disfunction, and the testimony of expert psychologist Judith Myers as to grave disability were the probable factor's in the jury's determination.
