In 1985, plaintiff Hazrati, a 63-year-old formulator and plant supervisor, was hired by defendant Liquipharm Inc. to build a generic drug manufacturing business, formulating the product and overseeing the manufacturing process. In 1994, he had an operation to remove a cancerous prostate, but the cancer had moved into his bones in 1995. Per the plaintiff, just prior to notifying the company of his bone cancer, plaintiff was promoted to vice president. On Feb. 23, 1996, he was laid off. The plaintiff brought this action against defendant based on discrimination, violation of public policy and breach of oral employment contract theories of recovery.
