Facts

On Feb. 12, 1999, at approximately 2:30 p.m., the plaintiff, a middle-age African-American male, was
mistakenly arrested for suspected shoplifting at the defendantÆs store by defendant employees.
The plaintiff brought this action against the store owner/operator and five employees alleging false arrest,
slander, battery and assault.

The plaintiff claimed punitive damages against all defendants.
