Facts

The plaintiff, a 57-year-old data processing clerk and her 6-year-old grandson, went into the defendant's market
and purchased several small items. The plaintiff's grandson wanted a $1.99 toy which the plaintiff refused to
purchase for him. However, the market owner observed the plaintiff leave the store with the toy which had not
been paid for. The market owner followed the plaintiff out and attempted to detain her to investigate. While
investigating, both plaintiff and defendant grasped the toy until the defendant yanked it from the plaintiff.

Settlement Discussions

The plaintiff demanded $25,000. The defendant made no offer.
